Eternal Flame Falls at Chestnut Ridge Park

This is one of the coolest places to hike near Buffalo. Eternal Flame Falls gets its name from the continuous streams of methane gas that seep through cracks in the ground. These streams can be lit on fire and burn continuously for long periods, including one spot located in the grotto of a waterfall.
Letchworth State Park
Even though Letchworth State Park is an hour and a half away, the scenic views and beautiful waterfalls make it worth the drive. Known as the “Grand Canyon of the East”, the park is home to a giant gorge with the Genesee River roaring through it. The gorge has three major waterfalls in the park that are must-sees.
Devil’s Hole Trail at the Niagara River

Featuring the Devil’s Hole Rapids, this is a great place to experience the outdoors in an extremely fun way. The park has scenic overlooks on a number of hiking trails overlooking the rapids.
Niagara Glen Trail
Niagara Falls, NY
The Niagara Glen Trail is an easy 1.6-mile trail near Niagara Falls. The trail follows the Niagara River and is perfect for all skill levels. This trail is actually in Canada, so be sure to bring your passport!
Buckhorn Island State Park
Grand Island, NY
Buckhorn Island State Park features 895 acres of marsh, meadows, and woods. If you’re looking to do some outdoor activities, Buckhorn is a great place to bike, kayak, canoe, fish, or even cross-country ski.
Akron Falls has some of the coolest waterfalls in the Buffalo area. The park also offers a variety of activities for both summer and winter.
Scarborough Bluffs Trail
Although Scarborough is a three-hour drive into Canada, this park is truly spectacular. The bluffs stand about 213 feet above the water and stretch 8.6 miles along Lake Ontario, making for a gorgeous view of the area. When you have the time, be sure to take a day trip out to Scarborough. You won’t regret it.
